I read this article where people are complaining about ....why we are still paying higher amount for the same product in comparison to US $.

If I was in same situation I would go to my bank exchange my CDN$ into US $ and pay in US funds rather than complaining.

It does take a time for the prices to change.

The question is;

Would the retailers here accept US$ pricing? I doubt it very much.

Why would they take the loss? They are doing business in Canada and most likely would accept Canadian Currency only for the goods sold here in Canada.

Have you tried it?

Please let us know if it worked.

Question from apsingla is not proper. All retailers charge in the Local Currency of the nation where they are selling goods/services. So, No Retailer/Service Provider will accept US $ prices for goods/services in Canada.
For paying & getting US $ prices, you have to cross the border.

surprisingly they do .. a lot of retailers, especially in the areas which get tourists from US, let you pay in US dollars....... even in India you can pay at some places in US dollars ..... though not at your local grocery stores ...... but places where normally a tourist goes for shopping.

They indeed accept USD, not sure of interiors but the downtown Toronto, from cab drivers to Gerard street shopkeepers, malls everyone was okay with USD.

Some do. I'll not say everyone does but whatever product has Cdn. and US dollar printed they do take US dollars. I know this because I have cousins in USA and whenever they used to come to canada we used to pay in US currency. for e.g. BAY,Hallmark and all stores at Niagara Falls...

My Idea was just to share my experience/ give an Idea. Things change over the time so it might be possible they might not take it now... Shopkeepers are also smart. Right!

I have not purchased anything in last 3-4 months, since I am out of Canada right now!

I think with the exception of desi driller and Pramod, everyone else has missed the point.

Vendors across Canada accept USD currencies, even in the interiors. However, I very much doubt they will accept to sell you at US $ prices. There is a huge conceptual difference.

For example, If the USD price is $5 and CDN price is $10, at the current exchange rate of 1 to 1, you can pay in USD and pay $10 USD or in CDN $ and pay $10 CDN. You will not get the luxury of paying $5 just because you are waving US currency at their face. That's because the selling price is $10 CDN whether you want to pay in Euros, USD, rupees or Zimbabwean dollars

BUT, someone please try and let us all know if it works.
