For those not knowing where to look for Business PhD (specialisation wise) ranking (the MBA rankings are different, as I'm sure you know)---- found this wonderful page http://som.utdallas.edu/top100Ranking/searchRanking.php?t=j

Just click on the related journals and do a search. You get the ranking by the no. of research articles published in a particular field of specialisation within business PhD. This number usually co-relates majorly with how good a particular PhD faculty is.

Students and Post Graduates seek a lot of information. Some of them are away in distant lands. They get a chance to interact with people who can provide information about their own Institution and also other details such as Finances, Accommodation, Scholarships, time it takes to complete the couorse and other short cuts such as taking a few courses at their places or residence, and the levels at which they should complete, which will make it a fast tracking when they land here. They might want to know the date of the receipt of the application, fees and the process to get Visa or many more questions that are personal in nature.

I for one will register and see what they have to offer. No I am not an aspiring student. Need I say, I am on the other side. Thanks for asking.

Freddie.

In 2007, Freakout guy told me that full tuition waiver and stipend of $20,000 is what almost every credible Ph.D. program will offer.

In present scenario, if I get offer of admission for PhD in USA, how much (in terms of waiver and stipend) is worth considering, in both cases: that is if I go alone OR if my wife and kid joins me in future.

The full tuition waiver and stipend ia applicable to all full time Ph.D programs in U.S and Canada. The advantage of doing it in the U.S is the sheer scope of opportunities compared to Canada.

For example the Fuqua Business School (Duke University,North Carolina) which is a Top 10 B-School offers full tuition waiver plus $24,000 for Year 1 and $22,000 for the next 4 years as stipends, in addition to paying costs such as health insurance and also offering $3000 as teaching stipends. Going to a top U.S school for a Ph.D is a no-brainer for me.

Hi asharma,

This is in response to a question you'd asked in 2007 --about GMAT score.

For admission to a PhD program in any field in Business Management, even in the second tier Business schools, please aim to get a 720 and above. --even if the University web-sites state that the cut-off is 650.

The GMAT score cut-off is higher for the PhD candidates than for the MBA candidates, and not the reverse.

This is a lesson that I've learnt the hard way recently.

All the best.

Diamond
