Contact your local municipal office for tips. they are very helpful and will tell you about licensing(you will need an import license I think), business plans etc. If you are on unemployment they may even provide you with financial help. You can start with

You are trying a good business! Try Industry Canada website. Also Canada Customs and Revenue Agency website has some information on import and duties of clothing etc.. Paintings "original and unique pieces" may be little bit tricky to import. CCRA also organize a free New Importer's Seminar.
