Hi,

I bought a new house. My driveway is yet not completed. I wanted to check, can I make a paved driveway in front of entrance. Builder will make a driveway in front of garage. Is it legal to make a driveway in front of house entrance. If yes, what is the procedure?.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Please do check with the Town authorities. You can do this by calling the town and speaking to the Zoning Department or the Landscaping department. (Check website for Phone numbers and the department).
All the houses that i have dealt with always have the clause that except the driveway, other areas need to be sodded (meaning lawn/grass). Some towns (Brampton) have a min. of 40% front yard to be sodded.
If you have a very large front yard, then maybe you will be allowed to pave some portions of your front yard.
Also note that Curb cut (access from the street to your lot) is regulated by the Zoning. The curb cut is for one car/2 car/3 car as per your zoning. If your zoning is for 2 car curb cut, then you canot curbcut (car access directly to your front yard from the street) for an extra car.
PM me if you need specific details/ phone no's etc.. (b'cos of my signature)

Paved driveway in the garage is not included.
The designer would have designed it in such a way that you get around 40% coverage with the exclusion of the paved driveway.
In a semi detached, it isimpossible to add another paved driveway.
Why donot you park in the sodded area itself?

It is quite possible depending on a couple of things.

http://www.city.brampton.on.ca/home/faqs.taf?ls_section=6

This is brampton city website.

When will the sidewalk and curb be installed on my street? Can I widen my driveway?

The developer will install curb and sidewalk usually no later than 6 months after occupancy. Should the 6 months after occupancy fall into the winter months, then the work will be completed as soon as the appropriate weather returns. City inspectors try to ensure that all sidewalk and curb construction is completed within the specified time. It is possible to widen your driveway in some cases. Prior to doing any work you must submit a drawing indicating the work you intend to do to the Construction Division of Development Services. This drawing will be circulated to other departments for review. Once all criteria are met then the work may commence.

And this is the application for widening it if you decide to

Hi,

I just had a concrete walkway & Patio built around one side of my home. I used the services of Virk Renovation: Surinder Virk 416-844-9694 who were recommended by my friend who had similar job done by them. The guys are a little rough to talk, but do a nice job. Check with them. I also recommend you to get a few quotes from other Pavers (you can find them in Brampton Guardian..or go to Better Business Bureau's website).

Don't forget to ask for references and visit a few sites where thay are working or have worked to see the quality for yourself.

Good luck!
