Thanks chandresh garvo and jake biju massod

for organising such a event for all desis .

it took me 2 hrsin a GO train , street car , ttc subway , ttc bus and a long walk to reach there but it was worth it .

i was always missing my family in Canada and a guide and a mentor here but now i have them.

It was a great networking oppurtunity specially for a guy like me who wants to get into the desi circle.

I would say the history is being created which will make the experiences of indians better in future .

thanks all for showing up and making all thier feel that we still care for each other and are willing to help.

better luck next time for those who missed.

bye for now

I feel unfortunate not be there, as I was busy. But I am willing to host another meeting of Canadian Desis sometime during summer. I live in Malton , I am sure everyone knows this community. Although my house is not very big but I am lucky enough to have very big back yard which can easily accommodate around 100 people. We can arrange as a big outdoor picnic. Of course there won’t be any money involve in this. Let us make it happen once again. Let me know if people are interested.

Thanks and regards.

Ain't that an awesome idea and offer! I sincerely thank you for it ,being the person who initiated this idea, and on behalf of other members who helped in organising it.

I think this first meeting is going to lead to some fantastic results. However, biomed, looking at the success of the first meeting, I think we would have had 1 or two more by the time summer sets in - people wanted it once every two months atleast if not each month!

I would like to thank all the organizers and the participants who were there in the meeting! It was a wonderful 'PRAYAS'. KOSHISHEIN AKSAR KAMYAAB HOTI HAIN!!
We (me and my wife) were feeling very bad as we had to leave early because of the 'daycare problem' of our daughter otherwise we would have loved to spend the whole evening with all the CanadianDesi.com friends. Sorry Jake, could not talk to you inperson.
In the meeting, as it was discussed, how can we help the community and especially the newly landed Desi immigrants?
My offer was: I WOULD LOVE TO HOLD FREE INFORMATION SESSIONS FOR ALL THE NEW IMMIGRANTS ABOUT CAR INSURANCE AS I BELONG TO THE SAME INDUSTRY.
I am going to organise these sessions all across the GTA but for that I do need some support from my other CanadianDesi friends like if someone has some room available in his house or in the building, try to arrange that. Also try to gather at least 5-10 "NEWLY LANDED IMMIGRANTS OR THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN HERE FOR LESS THAN 2 YEARS (TO START WITH) " for that session.
In the information session, we will talk about: How the car insurance works here in Ontario? What are the different types of coverages and what is the significance of deductibles etc..etc..?
If I get a reasonable response, I am willing to hold the very first session very soon, may be on any weekend after January 15th.
Whosoever is interested, Please e-mail me (if possible, mark a copy to Chandresh as well) at with their name, telephone # and location and then we can fix the date and venue. I WOULD REQUEST YOU TO MENTION THAT FOR HOW LONG YOU HAVE BEEN HERE IN CANADA!

Rgds,

Thanks and regards.

Hi All,

It was really nice to see such a great turnout of Canadian Desi.com members for the very first meeting. Congratulation to all who attended in minus -30C and special thanks to Rashmi, Chandresh, Jacob, Masood and Viju for their efforst and commitment to the cause of Canadian Desis. I am sorry that we had to leave (we left after 5.15PM) because of some pre-occupation later in the evening, but it was really worth knowing personally to most of the people present there. All the comments in earlier posts suggest and I would agree that the first ever attempt was a real success and we should continue in this direction with inputs with more of the members as to how every one can help the cause of the fellow Desis.

Mortgage is my field and as I offered in the meeting, I would once again offer to help and educate general public about the various aspects of the mortgages which involve credit rating, types of incomes, various mortgage products and options available to each and every individual to help them realize their dreams of buying their own house in this chosen land of theirs. For this I would start posting articles in near future. However, I would suggest that members can ask general questions under \"ask the expert\" post and I will answer their querries. If some one wants to ask a specific question relating to his/her personal situation, he or she can email me directly and I would give \"free advice\" to all my Canadian Desi community.

Once again my sincere thanks to Chandres & Co. for taking this initiative and I hope that we would be having more of these types of interaction which will ultimately help our community here.

Actually, I think the next thing to do is to get some initiatives rolling. I think we should do this before our next cdesi meeting so as to effectively utilise the momentum we have already generated.
e.g: Happyji's info session, based on the level of response, can be put together. Same with Promod. Also we can organise the various sub-comitees that we talked about with the volunteers we already have at hand. Then each sub-commitee can take their own decision on the next course of action to promote their services. E.g: the pickup and hosting (for new immigrants) commitee can decide when they will be ready to go into operation and advertise their services to new immigrants on canadian desi. That way after the initial co-ordination by those of us who organised the meeting...the good work and decisions are then undertaken at the sub-group level.

Basically, with the information we have gathered It should be possible to co-ordinate putting together the various subcomittees. These can then operate freely while being hooked into the mothership(canadiandesi.com).

Like Masood mentioned...'talk is cheap'. It is time for some action now. Lets get the good work started and help people. That way the sub-commitee's will have something to show at the next meeting and we will also socialise/network at the same time. Ofcourse, it goes without saying that, if any of you are keen on organising a get-together for social purposes...nothings stopping you.

It was great meeting all of you even though the drive back took me about 9 hrs. We spent quite some time following snowploughs on the freeway.

Thanks all, for being there and willing to help others.
Happyji...we will have plenty of other opportunities to meet personally ;).
