There is a new south indian restaurant which has opened in Mississagua known as the Clay Oven. It is near Dixie and Eglington. The owner is a Coimbatore professional who was the manager in The Host for a couple of years. I assume that he is going to copy The Host for his new restaurant.
The lunch buffet is $8.99 whereas the Weekend Lunch Buffet is $9.99. He serves 4 non. veg. dishes and 4 veg. dishes. For Birthdays he throws in free baloon decoration and fireworks sparklers. The buffet fee with unlimited Juice and coffee/Tea is $15.00. All has taxes extra.
Has any one tried this restaurant? What is the feedback? How is the service etc...

I tried the above restaurant yesterday. It was good. It was more North indian taste than South indian. The place is nicely decorated but it looks very old/ dull. The linen and table arrangement is nice. The buffet location and surrounding areas looks dirty and over looks a dirty kitchen. The buffet items were hot.
But my observation is that we were the only people (2 adults) during the whole buffet. It is located in Aimco road near Dixie/Eglington. It is a god forsaken place with not much crowd in the vicinity. Though the restaurant is located in a small plaza (which has some thatres), there was no one around at 8:30 pm. It seems that the restaurant opened on May 13th. 2006.
I wonder how these people ever make profit. We paid the bill of $25.50 (with tips) and i am sure that it must have been the only bill that he must have got for the night.
However, the owner said that he is fully booked on weekends for parties (which i confirmed by looking at his order notebook).
So my conclusion is that Location is very very important in deciding a restaurant. His ala-carte menu was too costly that i am sure that no middle class desi / person can afford it. (for eg. his bindi masala was $9.99 + taxes+tips). They have no combo packages too.
My observation is also that restaurants associated with a food court have more sales and profit ,even though the rent may be quite high.
CD's comments please.
