Hi Folks,

I am planning to buy a new LAPTOP. the two optios available are dual core 32 bit Intel processor or the Single core AMD Turion 64 bit processor.

Can any one suggest me which one to buy???

Also, AMD has comeout with Turion 64 X-2 which is dual core 64 bit processor. But no laptop or note book based on this processor is avilable. So i have now the options of only Intel Pentium DUO vs. AMD Turion 64.

So, give your suggestions with reasons if possible.

Also, I have not used AMD processors previously. If any Expert can tell me more about AMD chipsets, bus speeds and Graphica nd sound card technologies that will help me a lots.

My thoughts would be to go with the Intel Dual Core...you might get a little more use out it.

However, I don't think either of them are something that will boost your computing performance hugely. At present there are relatively few 64 bits programs that you can take advantage of, and by the time they start to appear (2 yrs +) your laptop will be obsolete.

Dual core will help if you are running two intensive tasks simultaneously, like a virus scan and some photo editing. For that vast majority of us who either surf the web or edit Word docs there won't be too much of a difference.

One important aspect to consider is battery life...I heard the Turions weren't all that great there.

No point in spending on a dedicated graphics (nVidia or ATI) unless you're going to be doing a lot of photo, video editing or CAD work.

Thanks for the quick reply. I want to know that Turion advertise itself as "Windows VISTA" ready, while Pentium is silent about it. Also Turion based Laptops are cheaper than Centrino DUO.

So, with the above information, does it make any sense to buy Turion 64 now?

Also, can you describe the main difference between ATI radien and NGVidea cards, and in what breeds do these cards come in and which one is cheaper, good and gives best value for money.

First of all, Vista will come in both 32 and 64 bit versions. So you don't need a 64 bit OS to take advantage of it.

For Vista your basic needs are a 64 MB dedicated video card, and also minimum 1GB RAM to run comfortably.

Video cards....both are pretty much as good as the other. nVidia has had a slight edge but it hardly matters unless you're a hard core gamer.

Also, for Vista, keep in mind that it will only be out sometime next year, or late this year. Then you might want to wait until the first service pack is released and the major bugs have been sorted out. That will be end 2007.
