GMR synchronises Odisha power unit








Bhubaneswar, Jan 29 (IANS) Global infrastructure major GMR group Tuesday said the first unit of its 1,050 mega watt (MW) power plant in Odisha has been synchronised with the central grid.

The power project at Kamalanga in Dhenkanal district, about 100 km from here is the group's second coal-based power plant to be synchronised, the company said in a statement.

Work on commissioning the second and third unit in Odisha is in progress, it said. The project has been implemented on multiple packages concept and is the first independent power project (IPP) in the state.

The project will cater to the power needs of various states of the country besides Odisha, it added.

The GMR group is a Bangalore-headquartered business major with interests in airports, energy, highways and urban infrastructure sectors.

The company has 16 power generation assets in the country of which five are operational and 11 are under various stages of implementation and 10 road assets, of which six are operational and four are under construction.

In the airports sector, it has developed and commissioned the greenfield international airport at Hyderabad.

The company, besides operating the existing Delhi International Airport, has also built a brand new integrated terminal T3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport, which was commissioned during the October 2010 Commonwealth Games.
