Injured Munda to convene cabinet meeting May 17

Ranchi, May 14 (IANS) Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda, recuperating in a Ranchi hospital from injuries sustained when his helicopter crash-landed here last week, has convened a cabinet meeting May 17 at his official residence.

"The cabinet meeting has been convened May 17 at the official residence of the chief minister. Arjun Munda wants to do official work and we have been directed to bring all matters needed for cabinet approval," Aditya Swaroop, Jharkhand cabinet secretary told reporters.

Munda, who sustained injuries in the spine and hand, among other parts of the body, is disposing off files from hospital. His right ankle also got fractured in the accident.

Munda's move is being seen by political experts as a political compulsion in the state. Munda is running a coalition government and faces dissension within the party. Munda is trying to send a message to people, alliance partners and party members that he is fit for work and the accident has not had any impact on the functioning of the government.

Munda, who was injured in a crash landing of his chopper May 9, was shifted to a private ward from the Intensive Care Unit Saturday.

Munda was on his way to Saraikela Kharsawa district to participate in a programme when the helicopter developed a technical snag and returned to Ranchi. The chopper crash- landed from a height of about 25 feet in the airport area and toppled over, injuring its occupants.

The Aryanan Aviation chopper Augusta 109 was said to be 20 years old. In April, the chopper carrying Munda had to make an emergency landing in Jamshedpur after it developed a snag.
