Sofia, Dec 24 (IANS) Nikolay Mihaylov, a third generation goalkeeper and netminder of the Bulgarian national team and Dutch FC Twente, has been voted the best Bulgarian football player of the year. A poll of 128 journalists from 55 media organisations got him 224 points. Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov took the second place, 24 points behind Mihaylov. The 2010-11 English Premier League Golden Boot winner Dimitar Berbatov came third with 196 points. Mihaylov, 23, is a descendant of two famous Bulgarian goalkeepers, both players of the national team. His grandfather Bisser Mihaylov was at the pinnacle of his fame in the 1960s while his father, Borislav Mihaylov, in 1986 was the last goalkeeper to win the best Bulgarian football player award. Last year, Manchester United striker Berbatov won the award for the seventh time, beating his own record. Then, Berbatov called on journalists: 'My time is running out and you should switch to the younger players, so please do not include me in the ranking because I do not feel myself comfortable.'
