16 Indian Haj pilgrims die in Saudi Arabia








Jeddah, Oct 14 (IANS) Sixteen Indian pilgrims have died in Saudi Arabia while undertaking the annual Haj pilgrimage, an official statement said Friday.

Also, the first child birth for an Indian pilgrim was reported from Madinah Friday. The baby girl was born to a couple from Uttar Pradesh.

A total of 57,805 pilgrims have arrived from India, of which 22,792 are in Makkah and 35,001 pilgrims are in Madinah.

So far, 209 flights have come from India.

The Haj to Makkah, the holiest city for Muslims, is obligatory in Islam at least once in a lifetime.

Madinah, the second most sacred city for Muslims, is the place where Prophet Mohammad was laid to rest and also has the three oldest mosques.
