Dear Friends,
As promised by BL last week, we are starting a semi-interactive forum for Success Stories. Though we have quite a good number of articles in our article section about successful desis, it is not interactive. It is only one way communication.
In charcha we do have some posting about users landing experiences, and that is interactive. Now what happens in the open forum, like what we all have seen, often the main purpose of the poster dragged by other users to the pointless and endless discussion.
To avoid pointless discussion, we will be controlling this section. We means current moderators and any future moderators. Any posting on this forum will be locked for others, but will be open for the original poster and moderators. For example if a user "abc" would like to share his/her success story, he/she can start a new thread in this forum. To start with we have some common question that can be answered. Once the post is there, it will be locked. Now moderators can ask relevant questions. If any users have specific questions, they can pm their questions to the original poster or moderators and if the questions are appropriate they will be posted on the site.
I think this is a BIG step towards highlighting brighter side of desis in Canada. I am sure there are many success stories within ourselves. Many of us don't want to share our stories on the open board like this. There could be many reasons, but usually people with complain shout and with satisfaction never say a word. They don't see any need for it. This is wrong. We need success stories more and more on this board. Many of success stories can be build around CanadianDesi, like how canadiandesi helped you to prepare yourself before coming to Canada, and how it helped to settle here faster etc.
Just yesterday I was hearing a news that Alok Mukharji could be a police chief of Toronto. When we have so many desis making their presence remarkable in Canada, why should we not reflect it here.
Following are some common questions.
1. When did you came to Canada?
2. What you do right now?
3. Was your first job in your field or do you ever needed to do labor job?
4. How did you get your first job?
5. Are you satisfied with your job?
6. Do you see a good future in Canada?
7. How to do rate Canada?
8. How do you find Canada for Kids?
9. What is it you don't you like about Canada or What is it you would like to see more of in Canada?
10. What is your advice for others in terms of settling in Canada?
In order to keep your privacy please don't post your real name, company name email addresses or phones here.
ALSO NOTE: This section is for only success stories. If you post a story that is not a success story, it will be removed from this thread or move to appropriate section.
Thanks a ton!
Let us wait to see first successful person's post!!!

I would like to add to what Garvo has written. Success is not necessarily getting a great paying job, but entails much more. Since a lot of immigrants find it difficult even to get jobs, or get into a vocation of their liking, one who is able to achieve that sooner or later can also be a success story. A person who might have struggled for say first two years in Canada, but after that he was able to get into something that he likes, or had dreamt about, would also be a success story. It could be:
1. The story of a person who was able to arrange an employment / vocation even before landing in Canada.
2. The story of a person who was able to do the same within a short span of time – say within the first three months and is happy with his achievement, whether or not paying what he really deserves. For example, there can be CA with say 7-8 years experience in his field. A local having same qualification may be at a controller or VP level drawing say 75-100 k, but if this new immigrant is able to get even a Senior Manager position with a starting remuneration of say 50k, in his own field of interest, it is a success story.
3. The story of a person who struggled for some time initially, but finally was able to make it by perseverance, dedication, enthusiasm, learning and de-learning, focussing, changing, as required etc. is a success story too. (I hope to be able to write something like that one day!)
4. The story of a person, who initially came to Canada with a specific experience, found it to be not easily recognisable in this country, changed his profession or goal, and achieved something in the new career he chose, and is now happy. This could be like a doctor who started financial consultancy (Last year I met a guy in Indonesia, who by profession is a medical doctor and still practices as part time, but was recognised as one of the 10 best CFOs in the world or Asia by some renowned magazine like Time or Far Easter Economic Review – don’t remember exactly!!!), or an engineer who started Real Estate Agency and is happy with what he is doing and the rewards the new career is providing to him.
5. Etc. Etc.
The poster could help us more by writing what kind of preparation he did, what obstacles he came across,if any and how he overcame them, or if it was a prolonged failure turned success, how he managed to live thru the bad times and fight it out to finally succeed. And ofcourse, whether he had a special ability or experience or advantage, which others might not have, but could develop, if possible.

Ok, where's everybody who was complaining that there aren't enough success stories on the forum?
Anyways, here's how I'm going to start. I'll find the success stories already posted on the forum by several users and post them here along with a link to the original thread.
And I urge you guys to post your stories or ask people you know to post them. We're not necessarily looking for stories of people who hit the jackpot here and became multi-millionaires (although they would be very welcome too), just stories of average Joes/Joans who've established themselves in their professions here in Canada.
Let's hear 'em.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Are you there?
If you are too busy to post your entire story at once here, you don't need to answer all questions at a time.
Just start your story by answering any question and keep posting by picking up other questions over the period of time.
Come on guys - we have so many success stories around us.
And yes you don't need to be earning over 100K to post here. Any body who is happy/satisfied with Canada in any of these Salary, Position, Lifestyle, Kids Education, etc. etc. can post here.
Thanks in Advance.
