I was considering buying a Kindle vs. IPad. Of course, IPad would have been for more than just reading books. Anyway, few days ago, I received Kindle as my b'day gift and absolutely love it. I am still thinking of an IPad, but considering my interests are more in reading, should I bother geting one?
Anyone with experience with Kindle or comparable e-readers?
I have an account with Amazon USA and all my downloads are through that, including several free books.

I have a nook colour from Barnes and Nobel. The reason I bought it is that it is cheaper than iPad yet has almost all the functionality of iPad. I can read books, listen music, surf the net, watch videos etc. etc.
The only problem with nook is
- It is smaller than iPad yet heavy
- Resolution is not that great when it comes to picture/videos
- Net is a bit sluggish
- Runs on a proprietary Android based OS. As a result, there are still very few apps that are available on Nook marketplace
I use it to read pdf files and works fine. It is also compatible with public library's electronic book lending system, so I can borrow books (although the collection is very limited). It also has flash support unlike iPad.
The inbuilt memory is 8 GB and expandable through 32 GB micro-SD card.
I didn't opt for Kindle due to limited functionality when it comes to web surfing.

Anyone lookup the Nov 15 due to be released Kindle Fire? Looks neat from reviews and pics. It's priced at $199 USD.

Keep in mind most tablets in the market offer more or less same features as the leaders in this genre - the Ipad and Samsung Galaxy.

Not too concerned what this would kill or compete with. I have been a loyal cult member of Amazon for eons and have bought anywhere from books to an expensive camera. Their customer service is excellent. So, I will tend to be loyal to Amazon. I am just wondering if the Fire is a great buy or not, considering it lacks a camera, microphone and supposedly volume control (you'll have to open the movie/song to control the volume). Also, how's the droid ops system since I know nothing of the back end magic that happens in these gizmos.

I have the nook color too..
nook color is lighter than the ipad2 by 150gms.
Best part of the nook color is the micro SD card that lets u load Crayogen Mod 7 version of Android which lets u over clock and makes it a full fledged snappy touch tablet, with full Andriod Market place access..
Nook Color lacks camera, microphone and Blue tooth.. which means , no voice, no external keyboard...
Amazon fire seems to have a nice price point and probably a Arm Cortex A9 based cpu which is similar to one in ipad 2..
I would wait for Nook Color 2 due to be released in couple of weeks to compare the Amazon fire vs nook color 2 in hardware specs..
I think 200 to 300 is the price point a lot of consumers have been waiting on to get tablet devices...
This is where the tablet wars will be fought in..
Apple better have a device in this category soon..
