Dear all,
I would be higly benefited if someone can help me with my query...
Myself and my wife arrived to Toronto as new immigrants on January' 2004. Both of us are jobless yet. Do I need to file my income tax returns before April 30th 2004? Could anyone help me with that. If I need to file, can anyone send me the phone number of any desi accountants who will charge me less for helping me filing a tax return. please reply me at :
Gokul,
If you arrived in January 2004, even if you had a job you still wouldn't need to file taxes this year.
Individual taxes are always filed for the previous year, so if you landed in 2004, you don't need to worry about this till 2005.

Are you there?
Gokul,
The income tax return that has to be filed by 30th April is for the income during the year 2003.
Since you came to Canada only in 2004 (as seems from your post), there is no requirement for you to file the return. However, if you landed in Canada in 2003, went back to where you came from, and again came to Canada in 2004 to live, then you will be required to file the return (though some people might advise you otherwise - saying that you were not a resident of Canada for 2003).
There are quite a few accountants on this forum who can advise you on this matter, so do not get panicky. We will do the best for you......and you will not have to pay anything for that!
