Thanks in advance.

You have gone through a gruelling time indeed, perhaps you let yourself drift for too long after the incident.

Your option,
Like BL mentioned you will need FBI clearance for applying the canadian immigration. I will suggest, as a first step, get fingerprinted and apply to FBI, it will not go wasted. No other document is admissible for immigration application. In case you get the clean chit from that front, then start thinking of canada immigration.

Even after, the clearance you may have to say YES whereever asked about the detention, after all you overstayed ! It will not affect decision on your immigration.

on side note, better know yourself first, in case you are depression prone, stay close to your family and friends, Canadian life may not do good to you on that front.

till then ,

best of luck

Peace

:-)

san Hugo & BL have put ivery squarely ... First check for PCC from the US ... Then state all facts in your Canadian Application and take your chance ...

Thanks BL, Fido, aditya, San, bhootnath & ashedfc for your valuable insights. I think I am gonna consult an immigration lawyer and upon his advice I give it a try.
Well ,if u ask me why (or if I ask myself), is it worth it ?it goes like.. most of my family & extended family are settled in Canada and I always had the plan of settling in canada eventually from the beginning. I opted US over Canada for my MS as I got into top30 school with a dean's scholarship n all tht.... but who wuda thght of this twist :( ..any who ..letme give it a try ..if I can make it , then I whould have found some solace atleast.
