Hi All,
I have come to Canada on a work permit two months back with my wife. When we entered canada, my wife had a visitor visa so she could not get her work permit.
After coming in to Canada, we have applied for Open Work Permit for her through New York Canadian embassy and got her worker visa stamped. But we also got to know that to get the work permit paper, she has to go out of the country and come back in. During customs she has to get her work permit paper.
Is this true? Can't she get her work permit paper within Canada? Because we do not have visa to USA, the only place that we could go to is India.
Please advise!
Regards,
Mohan
No you don't have to leave Canada .We had same situation i.e my husband came on Work Permit and i followed him after 4months in 2003 on a Visitor Visa . After coming here I applied for Open WP from within Canada and got it in 20 days .
This link could be of some help:

Thats true i did the same thing as HelloG. But you need to have a job offer letter. It is an easy process and u dont have to leave the country. I will apply for my citizenship on 21st April the same day of my baby due date. whats a coincidence.
