Currently I am working as Adminstrative clerk for the past one year after landing. Though I have higher qualifications and skills from India, I took this job to get “Canadian Experience” .

I always wanted to work in a Bank/Financial Services Section. As a first step I cleared the CSC exams in September (took 4 months to complete) though the Company I work is no way related to Securities or bank. Ever since I have been applying to banks and Securities companies to get atleast an entry job but till now I did’nt get any response. In the meanwhile I have enrolled for Professional Financial Planning Course.

Could any one provide any leads/help me to get a job in bank/ securities field.

Thanks in advance

most banks require The CSC as a prerequisite. you just have to apply i guess.

4 months CSC is excellnet. I am planning to this but don't really have any financial bankground. How tough do you think ths course is? I know it is mostly mutliple choice questions and have to score 60%. Anyway I get the feel of the course by reading the matter prior to registering.

tks

Nowadyas it's easier to clear CSC than 2-3 yrs back....I guess back then also it was not a great deal....if you have good logical and math skills...this course is like peanuts....people here just give it a big deal....anyways I feel most Indians won't have any prob clearing this course....

If you want to check out course fees....go to http://www.csi.ca" rel="nofollow">LINK

if you want to have a feel of course contents...you can go to 121 King St W.....to CSI off...ask them to lend you the study material...you can read it, in their off....for as long as you want before enrolling in the course...

All the best to you...

Many congratulations for clearing CSC and all the best to you for your job search....you didn't have to enroll for PFPC for getting into bank.....infact once you are working for a bank....they will sponsor you to undergo the course....you don't even need CSC for getting into bank.....

I work for CIBC as Personal Banker and most of my colleagues (same position)....are just enrolled for CSC only after they were hired by bank....

What you need to get into any bank is a very strong sales exp.....and rigorous follow up....if you keep applying for jobs on their websites...forget it...you won't get any response may be for next N # of yrs.....what you need to do is go to the branches personally...speak with branch managers....present yourself as if you are the best person available....show eagerness....follow up on your discussion....send a thank you note....you will eventually get it....This is just a hard way....that's how I got it...BUT...I have come accross many people who just got it coz they applied at right time and right place....so my guess is keep trying....always look out for job fairs especially OPEN HOUSE by any bank....in an OPEN HOUSE...you need to go fully prepared as if they are going to interview you....I mean dress accordingly...go very early....keep enough copies of your resume....in the past lot of banks have hired people thru OPEN HOUSE intervies....

If offered a job....NEVER tell them that you would accept whatever they were to give you as salary....ASK for you true worth...don't accept anything below $32K...coz they will try to squeeze you down.....but be practical...if it boils down to loosing a job offer only coz of package...accept it...I mean only if it is OK for you......

If you need any other help...feel free to ask me

All the best

:)

further to my pr post....to all those who seek to have career in financial field.....IMHO.....stay away from PRIMERICA / CLARICA / FREEDOM 55 FINANCIAL etc...coz these companies do not give you any base salary....just commisssion....and it could be very difficult for a new immigrant.....infact for anybody who is just starting a new career....I don't mean to say these companies are bad...but one can't survive on commission only basis

If at all you want to join any such co....Edwards Jones would be the best choice as they offer base salary for first 14 or 18 months after wch you are on commission only...but that gives you the breathing spcae to survive and learn...you are reqd to finish both CSC and CPH within few month of joining their team....they train you real well....make you a hard core sales person....
