May be there are things in addition to those mentioned which you need to work on before things click for you.

Yup! And that I think is what the whole damned discussion is about. Being and remaining positive is essential, but not THE panacea! It is but a small part of what can help you achieve!

Glad you agree with me here....even if it just here .

At least we agree on some of the ingredients which help in job search . Thats all what GiG has written . Is his list complete ? Absolutely not. So what are those missing things, it is different for everyone . One has to search for the right answers .... If it was so easy to complete the list then everyone would have a great job dude.

For everyone there is a different thing which clicks. Certain things are common, which one can relate to in GiG's post ....certain things which he has , but i dont , i do not have a degree from top univ, i do not have a masters degree .

I hope everyone finds thier right answers and the missing ingredients in thier job search.

Yours Truly,

Let me answer it this way: You are new to the country and you want to be rest assured that you have things right. An inexpensive way was to meet the librarian, befriended her and went through several books mentioning top employers, industries and Canadas Top 50 companies to work with. It turned out she had helped people write resumes and was still doing it. Got a second opinion from her. Thats all. She gave a perfect 10. In fact later, when I got appointment letters, I sent her a thank you note and gifted her a box of choclates. She was overwhelmed.

BS:

To answer your question:

'Jointly', my wife was at home and she used to pool in a cool 8 hrs a day and I used to sit in the evening because India is approx 12 hrs ahead of Canada, so always got to see daily job postings. I used to sit 7 pm - 11 pm/ 12 am every day.

Hope that answers your queries.

Did I ever NOT agree to the fact that being positive is essential? I shall be grateful if you can point to a single post of mine, OR anyone else's for that matter, that claims positive attitude as not essential.
Look, what I am trying to do is to treat people who are ALREADY here as different from those who are STILL in their home country. And especially those of the latter that have reasonably good jobs back home. Based on the experiences of those who have come here, the two categories need to be dealt with in different manners. Those who have already taken the leap, need to be encouraged to survive, need to be given advice and suggestions on how to achieve the best possible. Fine, but compared to them, those who have not taken the leap yet need to be advised differently. For the former, they have no choice. They are already here and need to establish themselves. They need the push, the encouragement, the inspiration that all is not lost. They need to be shown examples of success that can help them pull themselves out of the dump. They need to be helped with strategies and tips.
However those that are still back home with reasonably good jobs, those who have achieved reasonable success where they are but are attracted to the west and Canada as something like heaven need to be cautioned. I am not even using the word "discouraged". They need to be CAUTIONED that life in this country MAY not be as easy as they imagine. They need to be told that post landing things are LIKELY NOT to turn out hunky dory. They NEED to know what they should have in their portfolios that will help them and what will not. It is THEM I am concerned about. We should not project a picture for THEM that is not realistic. A Dosanjh, or a Lakshmi Mittal is not what everyone becomes. These guys are ordinary, average folks like most of us. Please treat them accordingly! Please do not show them dreams, and tell them that it is possible for you also to achieve the same measure of success because someone like GiG has been able to do it!! That is WRONG!!
Again, I am not saying that they be DISCOURAGED! That too is wrong, Any prompting based on personal experience is wrong! What is important is to ensure that realities do not get presented in a skewed manner.

I think the only one that can do this in a manner that is acceptable to DTC is DTC. So MI, BL, GG, Chandresh...please make DTC a mod so he can tailor the board according to his exact standards and call it a day. Am i wrong?

Since people like GIG are wrong in sharing their individual stories of what got them where they are...let us make this thread a bit more positive wherin Kap, jago-desi, DIC, Mercury, BS etc can lay down what their personal recipies, that can help struggling immigrants OR those who yearn to come here , are. It maybe a bit more difficult than trying to pull someone else down but I'm sure you guys can come up with something. Can you?

That may be the whole point though. For whatever reasons (mostly ego), some people cry ATTAAACK at the very mention of success here on the forum :D.

I fail to understand why you “positive” guys always tend to gang up and try to classify a cross-examination or debate as “ATTAAACK”?

Huh? :D Read the first 10 posts on the topic and then tell me who's doing the "ganging up". Yeah, some very valid rational points there indeed. Classic example of "Ulta chor kotwal ko dante."

And cross-examination? What you and the others who "ganged up" originally did was ridicule GIG. Maybe you forgot how you responded when your suggestions about living in Canada were "cross-examined" by Soberflier.

And exactly what is so new and original about your suggestion to caution immigrants? There are dozens of posts here that do that. Someone would have to be a lunatic to go through this site comprehensively and come up with an image of Canada that's all hunky-dory.

Quote:

BL! Please read my first post! It mentions the word "suspicion". What do you think the use of that word implies with regard to certainty about something?

I wonder why you take such strong offence to such mild ways of addressing! In my vocabulary, "clown" is a much weaker term than I would really prefer to use for people who post such crap and expect people to fall for it!

oh yeah. So you do this on a regular basis with people you meet for the first time and don't agree with? Now there's rational thinking. :D

And the reason I asked you to up your wager is because I thought that your "reasonable certainty" meant more to you than 100 bucks. Thanks for letting me know its worth though.

Quote:

Did I ever say I was a 100% sure?? Please cite. And even when someone does say somehting like "absolutely sure" etc. the comment is more a figure of speech, and not a mathematical exactitude. It is splitting hairs otherwise.

You know something, when some people say "absolutely sure", they mean it. Its called integrity.

Quote:

Sure does. But for that to be won, more is required than answers to the two questions that you have posted on his "success" thread(locked for us).
I would like to meet this gentleman and know him personally. I just want to know his identity. I also state that will not ask him to verify any of the claims he has made. That will be my job.

Your first contention was that the story is baloney and the poster is a clown. Your bet was on that premise. With conventional English, I would interpret that as you saying that there are almost NO facts in the story. A few facts would make you lose the bet. Otherwise define baloney for me.

The main reason given was that after posting their detailed experiences (which in some cases were stories of struggle), they started getting calls from relatives in India, a testament to how popular this site is getting. Having to explain their experiences/struggles to their extended families became an embarassment.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am not quite sure I understand. How did the relatives get to know who the poster was?? Did the poster reveal his true identity to his relatives? Why would anyone do that if he does not want them to call him??

I do not have the time nor feel the necessity to investigate this. If someone posts something and then asks me to retract stating this reason, I would like to give this person the benefit of doubt. So let this remain one of those things you do not understand.

It is in this instance since the poster spoke to over the phone and I have met him at CanadianDesi meetings.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I believe that. He might very well be a successful person at this time. My question was regarding the events in the first three weeks of GiGs landing here. Did you know him then?? Did you witness all that??

No I did not witness all that. When someone at work tells you he went sking over the weekend, do you insist to "witness" that? Hey, if you know the guy well enough, you'll have the brains to figure out if he's bluffing or not. I know this guy well enough to know he's not.

There is an old adage “The dogs bark while the caravan moves .”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Wrong. There is no adage like that! You made it up like that MBO bit!

No he's right. You're wrong :D . Its supposedly an old Arabian proverb. Here...

http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Answered/Question48283-12.asp?Page=1

And one final point. You're ticked at GIG because of his suggestions have all been suggested before and are nothing new to you. So then do you have any new and original suggestions on this matter? Or is that too much work compared to picking holes in what others are saying.

Are you there?

Blue Lobster,

Why dont we just have a release of identity & why r u supporting his camouflaging all along ??.When u expect others statistics /claims 2 b challenged so be it with this guy --however well u may know him a couple of members are not convinced with his authenticity.

Or have we already guessed who this intelligent gentleman is ..... huh ??

We welcome success stories but 'weak' story lines need a bit of dissection . And why not ?? Even I ve not found other success stories being 'attacked' . Can u please substantiate that . We have a success stories section and I dont see much debating in those threads .

Manasvi .
