Yeah I guess I must ve confused Laura Branigan with Cyndi Lauper !
Still can sm1 remind me of lauper s Grammy winning single in 86 .It was a nice no.
In todays music there are a few artistes which are outstanding even by yesterdays standards . I cud nt forget Toni Braxton & Kylie Minogue (esp --cant get u out of my mind !! its foot tapping )

Yes we love all the above and also Shania Twain and Alanis. We went to see Nora Jones when she was here recently and also saw Shania last year at Copps.
Justin Timberlake is also dreamy. Anybody see him at the SARS concert last year. He was the opening act. He also duo-ed with Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones on one of the songs towards the end.
Mr BKB- I saw your long list of musicians- how does a fifty-I am only refering to your remark of fat, fair and fifty you once posted- year old desi man like this music. Or are you putting up a front?
From that era you forgot to mention a great singer, Elton John. I never heard of him till Princess Diana died and he redid "Candle in the wind".
I love Queen also- how do you spell his real name. In India we saw it as Farookh Bulsara- not Farukh Balsara, or does it matter?
To all in general- while in Pune, we used to visit the Osho ashram a lot where lot of rave and trance parties used to go on- also at ABC farms. We heard a lot of good western music then. Also there was Black Cadillac, Ten Downing Street and Totem Pole. But to the point, did anybody read the write up Toronto Star did a few days ago on the Osho ashram? Of all things - do an article on someplace we used to hang out every weekend. Last thing I expected to see in the TS.

My oh my! All these allusions to drugs,hallucinations and atheism. You surprise me Mr entrepreneur. Even though you had shown your penchant towards rock music in previous posts, I never expected this from you. When I met you last week, you did not project an image of one into Hard Rock music and what it stands for. I remember the old adage "Drugs, sex and rock", but one would hardly attribute it to you. I guess looks are deceiving.
My "fav" is The Doors. When i was in India recently, I saw Gary Lawyer, have you heard of him?, do his impersonation of Jim M and sing "Road House Blues". He was very good. He also recited some of his poetry. Have any of you seen the movie "The Doors" starring Val Kilmer? Excellent movie.
I don't know if you people realise this but my office colleagues read all this and are surprised that there are desis who are so familiar with this knid of music. They have this strange idea that desis only listen to bhangra and know nothing else.
Many did not know that Freddie was of Indian descent.
Keep up the good work!

while in Rome do as the Romans do
Anyways, I find that the as far as music is concerned, the Brits are a lot more innovative than the Americans. Americans are still stuck in the conformity of the grunge mode, while the Brits are constantly experimenting.

Boss, again a dull and insipid truism(just buggin' ya, amigo )-Right from the purana days from the times of the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Who, the Brits take the cake. No matter the hype given to Elvis the Pelvis, ol' Blue Eyes, Madonna- Nuthin' beats the Brits.

I'll be honest, 50+ headbangers don't bug me no more...
You could be right, however I was only speaking of the present times (hence the grunge reference). Can't think of any really significant American act right now and the radio sounds repetitive.

Success
To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded. Bessie Stanley
