this thread has sparked my curiosity... specially after reading all these wonderfully complicated words like sanghatan...
if you were to move to canada, or any other country, and acquire its citizenship, pledge your alligence to its constitution and its laws (as you are required to) and swear to uphold its freedom blah blah blah... and if that country went to war with india, for whatever reason, what would you do? what if your new country ordered you to pick up a gun and go kill a bunch of indians?

India is BEST and be proud as Indian. We are here for another reason not because India is worst.

Dear all
One who is from USA will always go in favour of USA however USA is so why we are talking negatively about our India ? India is world's largest demoracy and proofed too in last 50 years. Actually we should take proud that In our India all Hindus,Muslims & Christians are still living togather and has not been aparted with one another. It's difficult to run this country while we have a large number of Hindus,Muslims & Christians.
Our country is the only one in world is giving all facilities to Muslims & Christians while they are in minority. In Bollywood, you will find lots of Muslims people working however they r producer, lyricts or actors, look at in Politics also, Our President is also Muslims who is really good person.
These all things are our strength that we r still living happily with our minority people. Can WHITE PEOPLE STAY LIKE THAT ? I do not think so.
Please all, take always proud to be an India and also our Great Culture.

Hi Kap,
A mother and wife comparison would be more apt.
ie. India as mother coz ur born to her and canada to a wife cos you've embraced it. The former highly influntial in ur past life while the later rules the rest of it. Can't compare them together.

I wonder why we're complicating things here by doing comparisions. The point of the original thread was that we should not say anything bad about India. I don't agree, I think the negatives can only be fixed after they're exposed. I don't see what's wrong with discussing the evils of our society.
Does that mean we hate India? Hell no, that's a pretty narrow interpretation. That's the problem with some of us. If a desi says that Canada is great, we automatically interpret that as saying India is messed up. And if someone says one bad thing about India, we call him/her a traitor who has abandoned his motherland. What good is our education is if we have this approach?
I for one love India with all its flaws. I am extremely proud of my Indian heritage and and I really feel growing up in India has instilled in me a uniquely positive perspective of the world. I thoroughly enjoyed my life in India, there were things there that I can never find here. And I can never forget India, no matter how hard I try.
But that pride and love does not and should no blindfold my objectivity and balance. If I see something wrong in the Indian society, being an Indian, should I not have the right to express my views on it? How will remaining quiet about it help?
And I'm enjoying my life in Canada too and am truly thankful for the exposure and broader perspective that North America has given me. It has also afforded me the luxury to travel to places I probably would not have on an Indian salary. But if I notice some flaws in the Canadain society, I would not keep quiet about that too.
I wonder if that's so difficult to grasp.
