Buy your own tank and use it. Use your credit card that will give you the BEST Warranty.

RHEEM is a very reliable Hot Water Tank. 15 Years is a good and long duration for such a tank. That does not mean it can't work even longer. But needs investigating.

When you say POWER VENT, without its availability to run, the heater would sense that it failed and will call for its start before it starts to heat copious amounts of water. So, it could be a small sensor in that exhaust line that could have failed.

Secondly it could be the PILOT Flame itself, which I doubt, that has failed to get the initial flame to the burner and hence the water heater failure.

All of these are minor problems and could be done under a cost of $50 +/- plus taxes.

That will keep you going for a while.

Alternately, if you feel that time has come for a new tank, contact a few people and explore. Here is one such link.

The guys who install the same, will see the room available and how to get it into that location, before they will quote you a price. None of these are SELF INSTALL, or plug and play. So, you have to get expert opinion.

Good Luck.

FH.

Just in the passing, do you pay a monthly fee for the tank? (Rental may be, pl. check you gas bill. If none, then your next tank will be totally yours too. Don't rent one.)

My 15 year old RHEEM power vent water gas heater suddenly stopped working. Its not heating anymore. I am located in west end GTA.

Is it worth fixing it ? or should I go for a new one from Home Depot or Lowes ?

Could be a small thing like the burner, thermocouple or something else, but not sure if I should fix it since its 15 years old.

If I buy a new one from Home Depot or Lowes, do you know any good installer who can pick it up from the retail store and install it for me and then take away the old one ?

How much installation cost am I looking at for Tank one ? And how much for tankless ? Thank you for any help.
