Hi Vygodsky,
Of all the expenses you've listed, for any of the items you've regretted later and had second thoughts (like it woukd have been better if I would have done it this way)
Where did you do your shopping from ? Which places stores or garage sales?
I am due to land in mid september i f you have more info to share please do so. I mean guidance or like avoiding some obvious mistakes.

Whenever you experience joy, peace, security, equanimity or purity, it is only because you are aligned with ALMIGHTY.
I think you should done your secured credit card withjust the same urgency as the SIN card especially if you want to establish you credit history faster. TD is your best bet and they can secure you for $ 500/-. When we started off we put all our expenses on the credit card, including telephone, cable, and other bills wherever possible. It is totally upto you how you manage your credit card.
Regarding credit history, the u.s. credit history does not help one bit at all. And, also unlike the U.S. where giving your ssn is mandatory when you are filling up a rental application, it is not so, in most places here. However, if the apartment that you are moving into asks for a credit history check, you can convince them to run it on your ssn.
And peacock1, I have not had to regret any expenses (yet). And, I have decided on holding back furniture purchase for some time. The only items of furniture that I have are a bed (from ikea), a few lamps, and a table and 2 chairs (bought used for $20).However, i suggest that you provision some money for some household furniture and kitchen utensils etc.(I am not sure if you are landing here with your family?), and for good measure, add some extra money for miscellaneous expenses (you may or may not require this, but i have found that sometimes the budget can go awry). And, if you regret taking some extra services on your cable etc., you can always get rid of it by calling customer service.
Hope this helps
Dear Vygodsky,
It was really nice and heart warming to read through all your posts which were cheerful, optimistic, factual and very informative at the same time.
We are planning to land there sometime after january 2005.
There are a 100s of things which we feel we just have to ask (though the forum has endless articles on them) but since you have just gone through the whole rigmarole recently, may we send you an email with all our "loads of worry".
I am sure that you will do well, keep smiling and keep writing
With best regards
All the very best
