Guys,
I am sure there may be some among us who did the PGDBA or PGDBM from India. If you remember, back in India we (everyone, almost) normally and losely use the title 'MBA' even when acquired the Post Graduate DIPLOMA. How do you use the title here in Canada? I only use what is written in my Diploma, i.e. simply PGDBA, otherwise it might come across as a conflicting message to the employer. MBA here in North America is much bigger and better degree than the one awarded by the mom'n'pop shops in India. Barring, of-course IIMs, DU-FMS, alike. Even IIMs are Diploma holders, albeit in a different league altogether.
Also wondering, when IIM'ians move abroad do they use PG or MBA titles? I used to have MBA in my linkedin profile but then changed it to PG as the former brings itself number of expectations.
Just thought to discuss how everyone else views this.
Feb,
The question would be, how long was the course?
Was it done part time? or how many credits did it have?
What I would do it, I would pass it on to WES or the Univ. of Toronto to evaluvate it and based on that, I would change it to MBA or Dip. in Marketing, or PGDBA etc..
I have a PGDCA, which I got from offshoot computer centre of a reputed autonomous college (Loyola) of Chennai. When I joined the course, they told me that it was just a name sake diploma which is not even recogonized by the govt. of Tamil Nadu. So I donot use that anymore.
So give us more details of the diploma !

It was a long distance from Symbiosis. WES evaluated it as a Continuing Education. However, since I spent my time and energy on it by preparing assignments, discussions quizes, reading; and moreover acquired knowledge out of it, I am not ready to shed it completely by mentioning what WES says it is.
I actually know what do I have to do with it. I use the title 'Business Administration (Masters Diploma)' in my resume/linkedin. I have also got benefited from this knowledge/diploma in terms of some of my yearly reviews; and by being more Academic than my peers. I do proud of it.
My question was more inclined towards as to how other people are using the Diploma and name it on their resume. Canadian employers are not aware of the Indian title, i.e. PGDBA, PGDBM, etc. So, I use the local lingo, i.e. Post Degree Diploma or Masters Diploma, which is more in line and equitable with Canadian counterpart. I don't see anything wrong with it, except using it as MBA when it was more of a Diploma. I take strong exception to the latter.
I have been using my PGDBA from symbiosis in resume etc as additional education only, otherwise whenever employers asked for the background checks or for immigration/ visa purposes, I only provide my masters degree.
Naming it as PGDBA (MBA equivalent) is one way. It keeps things transparent as well as still leaves an impact , if it matters to the reader.
For me, it was not a great help till date except some knowlege and confidence gain. There are other relevant certifications and the master degree which overshadows this qualification.
That's true San. However, please do keep in mind that in North America having a Post Graduate Diploma or Program does help, provided you have a Canadian/American experience to go with it. It might not be of much use in India nowadays though other than IIMs, FMS Delhi, or other premier ones.
Look around at your workplace - how many LOCAL professionals do you see with Post Graduate Diplomas, let alone Degree. If it hasn't helped now, it will.
As my role is more Techno/Business/Project centric, I see a great value in highlighting my PGDBA credentials more often than not. Of-course, I don't lie that I am an MBA. What separates you from others is your overall education and North American experience.
Feb.,
I would only put it as diploma. To be quiet honest, distance education PGDBA's are all not fit to be mentioned (though you might have learnt a lot from them) and I personally am not in favour of you even putting it as a diploma.
However, if you have interest in management, I would attend evening classes at the local community college and try to build credits (North american) to be eqivalant to what you had learnt in India. I did the same thing for HR in Canada to compliment my SAP HR knowledge.
Again, no one in Canada might verify your claim. After the great recession of 2009, I started putting that I have my Architectural diploma from a community college in Canada and that was when I started getting interview calls and I eventually started working for a top builder in Kitchener. Sure, some of them wanted to see my Diploma but I got lot of job offers from people who did not want to see my Diploma.
Hope this helps.
