Renewing Canadian Passport with OCI

Hi:

Planning to travel to India in Dec, but my Canadian passport expiring in May 2014. Need to renew it as one needs 6 months validity. Should I replace sticker in new passport as well? did anyone have any experience with this?

Also, since I have 5 months validity on passport, do I still need to renew before travelling? I will just be going to India for a week.

Most of the travel agents will not issue to you a ticket unless the Passport is vaild for for the next SIX Months. So, please renew it prior to booking the ticket.

I have heard of the Indian Immigration Officers at the entry point refusing entry to a few for not having the endorsement. That was a few years ago. Feels like long long time now. Why take a chance? You planned for this trip a long time ago, saving your vacation days just to make this trip and also paying a lot of dough to make this trip. Don't want to get kicked out by a badge carrying Officer at the border at the P.O.E. (There is a special name for them, and I don't know if it is a derogatory term.) Please carry the old passport with the endorsement, just in case...it helps.

It takes only a week or 10days to get the new Canadian passport (go ahead & apply it - do not delay).
When you apply, also ask for your Old passport (which has the OCI sticker) to be returned back to you.
While entering India, they need to see the OCI sticker (where it is - old passport or new passport is not important)

Thanks all, am renewing the passport next week and will the old passport attached to the new one for the OCI sticker.

You have to carry both Canadian Passport
Old Canadian Passport is separate (with the OCI sticker on it),
& the New passport which you will receive.

& You also have to carry the OCI Passport booklet (issued by Govt. of India).

April this year we were in Dubai (from India and back). I had a new Canadian passport. Used the old Canadian passport that had the OCI stamp and of course the OCI card/document. No qns asked.
