Job Type: Permanent Full-Time
Position Overview: Reporting directly to the Senior Manager of Information Technology, this role is responsible for ensuring comprehensive operational support, maintenance and management of the Town of Caledon’s network and server infrastructure. The Network & Server Administrator works collaboratively with Network & Server team, other IT teams, vendors and internal customers to design, install, administer, and optimize company servers and related components to achieve high performance of the various business applications with a reliable, robust, secure and efficient IT infrastructure.

Key Duties & Responsibilities: Install, configure, maintain and replace IT infrastructure and network equipment as required
Develop and implement processes and procedures to improve efficiencies and IT service levels
Plan, coordinate and implement network security measures, device management and data protection
Responsible for system administration, configuration and patch updates for servers Conduct server monitoring, troubleshooting and capacity planning
Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records
Develop and maintain fibre optic connectivity between various Town facilities and the Region of Peel
Recommend specifications for network equipment, cabling, switches and related services Research features, implement enhancements and troubleshoot network problems
Configure, manage, support all Cisco routers, switches, access points, point-to-point bridges, Juniper firewall and VPN configuration
Manage AD and network services (i.e. DNS, DHCP), Domain Controller roles & Group Policies
Install, configure, upgrade and optimize operating systems, enterprise mail (i.e. Exchange Server, BES) and other IT services/applications (i.e. Citrix, Win2008/R2, Terminal Servers)
Configure, manage and troubleshoot EMC Celerra SANs, iSCSI connectors, CIFS server, data duplication, check-point, network cards, data mover redundancy and NAS anti-virus
Configure, manage and migrate servers to the VMWare ESXi and vCenter environment
Manage internet connections, work with ISPs and maintain external DNS records
Monitor and report on network usage, availability and efficiency
Build and manage LAN/WAN/Wi-LAN infrastructure
Analyse and performing network VLAN segmentation as required
Provide support to resolve IT Help Desk work orders as assigned
Coordinate project requirements and support regarding IT infrastructure related projects.
Manage Mitel VoIP server hardware, Equitrac and print servers
Perform disaster recovery, backup and restore procedures as assigned
Manage desktop image creation and updates by coordinate imaging services with Help Desk Design and implement IT server policies (i.e. passwords, data retention and quota administration)
Assist in overseeing the physical security, integrity, and safety of the data center/server
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Be responsible to work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, the Town of Caledon Occupational Health, Safety and Workplace Violence Policy and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines


Skills & Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
Minimum five (5) years of network and server administration experience; specifically working with Microsoft Windows Server technologies, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, Blackberry Enterprise Server, Cisco (Switches, Routers), Juniper Firewalls, Citrix Server, VMWare, VOIP, SQL Server, Antivirus, Radius Server and other Enterprise Technologies
Experience in the public sector would be an asset
A clean criminal record check
Valid driver’s license in good standing and daily access to a vehicle
Sound working knowledge of IT infrastructure and client services principles
Experience designing, configuring deploying and managing IT infrastructure and networks
Demonstrated experience with enterprise servers, network devices, firewalls and routers, etc.
Proven troubleshooting ability of network and infrastructure issues
Strong problem solving, collaboration, team building, customer service and communications skills
Knowledge of best practices for network and server administration
Experience with documentation and workflow development
Ability to multitask, meet established deadlines and work with minimal supervision
Experience working with smaller IT teams and limited resources
Demonstrated ability to exercise significant discretion and sensitivity
Organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines


Working Conditions: General office environment with regular travel to various town sites and external meetings
Must be comfortable occasionally working in outdoor locations and in various parts of buildings
Moderate physical activity; lifting up to 20lbs (Computers, Servers and other IT equipment)
Must be able to work after hours or when deemed necessary to meet deadlines and deal with crises
