Hi,

Except for QC, an IT professional cannot apply for Canadian immigration now. Does this mean there is no IT skill shortage in Canada now? What about SAP skills in particular?

I am an SAP PI/XI developer, with ABAP (classic & OO), Java, Web Dynpro(ABAP & Java) skills and with considerable BW and Portal skills too. I have 7+ exp. working for (YAWN!) IT giants :-) What are my chances?

But now I do not see how I could break into Canadian job market. Indian Cos like TCS, Infy are one option, but if u dont get an onsite, the decision to move into those cos becomes regrettable :D.

Specifically, is Montreal a good place for SAP? Or Toronto is the defacto hub? I heard BC still has preferential processing for IT professionals, what does it mean?
Do you know if sponsoring a work permit is rare OR normal?

Kindly help. Thanks in advance!!

- Shan

Your best bet will be to apply via Indian company like TCS,WIPRO who can send you here as onsite consultant and then you can initaite immigration process.GTA,Montreal,BC,Calgury still good for SAP folks.
Your resume looks impressive and could have a good chance if you would have PR or work permit.

We are also looking for ABAP resource as FTE.
Please apply online via http://www.rim.com/careers/search/

Your skill set is good and saleable. ABAPers are in low but constant demand. Most jobs are contract with 3 to 12 months duration. The permanent positions usually need one or two more modules functional knowledge. BW and Portal is enough to get into. At present 3 big Groups are implementing SAP in GTA besides other mid size organisations so getting a job should not be an issue if you have required soft and technical skills.

Now the main challenge for you is to get through the immigration. Explore the possibility to get through QC and later move to other part of the country. You may also try in Montreal which also has good IT market.

I believe to saw some fast track class under management category if your skills match with IT SAP management position. Any immigration expert can guide you.

If you opt to get in through Indian IT companies, make sure to do you homework first. Mostly these companies send employees on visitor visa which they apply for few weeks to meet and visit the client in Canada. After getting a 6 months visa, they keep them for close to 6 months on site and pay some extra money for day to day expenses. It will not count as working on work permit and you can not switch the employer. That is a rat trap if your intention is to get immigration. Try if any IT company can bring you on ‘Work Permit’.

Thanks a lot ani70 & Delhiite.

I had applied for couple of matching job postings. They did reply initially asking for details, but once they found that I do not have PR or work auth, they haven't got back. So, I assume it is very difficult without PR or work auth.

ani70, I have sent you a message. Kindly have a look.

Your resume is really impressive with working experience in SAP AG itself...let me forward your resume to the hiring manager...like I have previously mentioned ,you could get a job here easily if you would have the WP or PR ..but still let me try fom my side.

Very recently I was able to help a SAP Plant manintenance functional guy (he was also looking for his first SAP job here) to get a position in my project ..luckily he had the PR so it was quick and easy
