Does one know the best and safe way to transfer money to india...?

Here are choices
1) Give it to me
2) ICICI, CITI, UnionBank,State bankc
3) WesternUnion
4) Not sure about Hawala.

Wonder why not banks like Scotia/TD/RBC etc.?

I have a brochure from HDFC bank which mentions Scotiabank as one of the institute through which money transfer can be done. And I have done wire transfers through TD. IIRC, they are cheaper than Western Union.

wire transfer is any time better than western union or moneygram.

But if you want better rates and want to avoid those hawala, UAE exchange on albion islington is one of better service. Can transfer money directly to any Indian bank account with competitive rates.
