Hi CDs,

Can anyone, who has experience, suggest me a reliable GPS for a affordable price?
I have heard of TOM TOM, MEGALAN etc. But I don't know which one is the good GPS which can be updated with new maps. I want to buy a good affordable GPS for long term purpose. Please educate me on this matter if you have experience.

Thank you in advance.

Melovs

Its among the better ones. Tom Tom is very euro centric.
These are general guidelines . You should really compare reviews
of individual models . Essentialy it boils down to a good map system
and an accurate receiver. Avoid the ones with too many gizmos
like mp3 players and ipod interface - you are better off with
a standalone GPS though a bluetooth handsfree system is useful for
answering cell phone calls. Avoid the cheapo brands sold at discount
retailers. Stick to the major electronic stores like BBuy or Fshop or better
still buy in the US if the math is right (USD/Taxes).
Here's another point to consider - if you find a GPS at a
price thats too good to be true, chances are that its map system is
outdated - should n't matter much if you drive around older neighbourhoods
but you'll have trouble navigating newer subdivisions. If you are the kind
of person who can fiddle around the firmware Mio is the brand to choose.
My most important criteria in choosing a GPS though is portability.
Remember, leaving the suction cup dangling from the windshield while parked
is a clear sign that the GPS is in your glovebox - a tempting invitation for theft.

Factory direct is selling refurbished Tom Tom for $120-$20 ($20 mail in rebate, wait around 6 months for that $20 cheque). Factory direct usually replaces the item with the same exact product if it is defective (usually you cannot get your money back or even exchange for any better product if they have any).

You can exchange it for a better product or get a store credit in 10 days . Tiger Direct refunds your money but may charge a re stocking fee to 15% .

Plus the product is guaranteed for 1 year . How does that compare with getting the product at 1/2 price ? I ve been using this GPS brought from TD for 8 months now and have never been disappointed .

At $70/- vs $150/- (reg price ) and with warranty its a steal .
