Thanks to all of U out there.
I have no qualms about hard work there. But can U tell me what type of jobs are there to start with.

I have two dependent children age 5 & 6 years.
How much will be my monthly expense to run the house.
Are newcomers make that much money per month initially to keep kitchen fire burning.

Thanks

Vivek

A simple guess:

Job situation - (worst case)

Husband doing job of 8 dollars per hour can get about 1200 at home.
Wife doing job of 7 dollars per hour can get about 1000 at home.
(after deducting taxes)

Your kids can earn you about 400 dollars per month as Child Tax benefit.

so the total is 2600 per month - if both husban & wife are working

Now expenses (minimum)

Basement apartment rent - 750
Apartment Rent - 950 (If you can share it it will be half!)
Grocery bills - 400 to 500
TTC - (Bus travel) - 180
Car Insurance - 250

So if you don't have car, live in a basement apartment then your total expenses are
750 + 180 + 500 = 1430 per month

Now remeber if husband does not have job the situation will become worse and you have to spend from your savings!

Government gives Unemployment at the rate of 60percent of your income, only after you have worked for 900 hours.

I Think other members can provide more information.

The above figures are of Toronto - other cities might be cheap

I'm about an year from this point unlike the questioner.

Is getting a job at CAD 8 for the husband so difficult?

I also have a very similar back ground in terms of the family.

How is it in Ottawa, Calgary or any other location? is it cheaper or costlier.

What is CAD8?

Regarding other places - no clear idea - but they should be cheaper.

Ottawa is not so cheap - but its twin city Hull is bit inexpensive. I had heard that people live in Hull and work in Ottawa for this simple reason.

Dr.Jani.
As I recall you have a Ph.d in polymers. Now are you seeing a job in academic field or industry??
Toronto and Montreal can be your choice. You may not want Montreal as you and your kids may have hard time adjusting to the french language and their culture. Majority of immigrants come to GTA(greater toronto area). Here there are quite a few universities where you can explore oppurtunities in research. There should be enough chemical plants in GTA.
In GTA, job opportunities are good, but very expensive. People chose to live in Hamilton, Kitchener+waterloo+Guelph. These cities are very close to GTA, cheaper and has enough job opportunites.

you missed one most important point in your breakdown of monthly expenses.
BABY SITTING.

children below the age of 12 cannot be left alone at home as per law.

If husband and wife work, you need a care taker to send them and bring them from school and hang on with the kids till one of the parent comes home. This babysitting is damn expensive.
With regards to the child tax benefit, Desis prefer to put that money in RESP for the kids.

Yes

Baby-sitting is expensive.

If you live in desi apartments - it will be cheaper as there are many desis doing that, but you are are putting your kids with 'day-care' centers it will be costly.
