Hi folks,
I was on EI and traveled abroad, was not sure about reposrting requiremnts about my absence , now I'm subject to audit by service Canada, has anyone gone through this ? on a hind side I did a mistake not notifying about my absence and received EI , however any suggestiosn will be appreciated , what should I do now to deal with this ? it'll be great if someone who may have faced this can share the experience , you may PM me if you like.
Ei regulations permit 2 weeks off (for personal / emergency work outside the country)or travel to USA for unlimited time.
I know many people who travel to India for extended period of time but do complete their Internet reporting online (for EI) and get EI.
Wonder if you did not do that when you left abroad.
again it all depends on how long you left and for what reason. Or did they use the IP address finder / ISP provider to find that you filed the report from abroad?
Only if you can share all details can we be in a position to advise you. You may use the PM option if you are a bit scared to share the details in public.
Peace by TK

When you are receiving EI, you are supposed to be looking for a job within Canada and not vacationing abroad. An acquaintance of mine, who was recently laid off recently, opted not to apply for EI as he wanted to go to India for 2 months. The chances of being caught are higher nowadays, as the Govt is under pressure from so many applicants and is looking at ways of weeding out those who "violate" the terms of their EI. On the other hand if you want to go abroad and if your visit is not of an emergency nature, your EI will be suspended for the period that you are out of the country. If you are audited, then you will have to pay back the EI that you received for the period that you were out.
