I have no idea how that relates only to dentistry, but here are some general competencies and abilities/aptitudes required of a dental professional:

General learning ability
Verbal ability
Numerical ability
Spatial and Form perception
Motor coordination and finger dexterity
Manual dexterity
Interest in coordinating,
Precision working and Mentoring.

It sounds pretty gender neutral. People have such varied lifestyles, preferences, aptitudes, abilities and education levels that its hard to say. I think your Career Counsellor was either making a very broad generalization or was speaking in a particular context.

This is to answer the original question.

It is immaterial if you have the skills or not, you CANNOT practise dentistry in Canada unless you have a License from Canada. No one cares about the skills.

There are thousands of Foreign trainned Dentist in Canada doing nothing but Dentistry and some of them are highly qualified with number of years of experience. They all have the Skills which the conusellor is talking about. But do they have a Canadian License - No. Then no use.

Hope that answers the question.
