I heard that in UAE a person can get 96 Hours transit visa free of cost...
Can we go out of the airport. As it looks like we are going to have 9 hour stay in UAE before we get on the flight to toronto.

If you are a citizen of one of these countries listed below, you no longer need to apply for a visa in advance of travel - a visit visa is now stamped directly in your passport by Immigration officials at the port of entry, and is valid for 60 days.
Countries eligible for visa on arrival
Australia, Andorra, Austria, Brunei, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America and the Vatican.

Even if you are not the citizen of the country mentioned above you can still get a 96 hours visa and you can get out of the airport , provided you have an onward jpurney tkt confirmed and it has a charge of some dollars which i am not sure, but you can confirm the same with any UAE embassy or mission in your boarding country.
