does anyone know anybody who can finish the basement and do hardwood floors at a reasonable amount? I am shopping around at this time.

Before you do your basement with any cheap contractor. Please be aware.

I have done the same mistake. Call professional company (dont care shd be desi or not)..but company should be certified to do the basement work with proper insulation etc.

Here is our expreince and mistakes - just putting here so you can avoid this mistake from someone's expreince.

1. We have choosen cheap contractor, who did not finish the job, and run away with 30% cash. they will ask you to pay 30% money to start the work.

to avoid this mistake... pay later or if he dont agree.. whatever you pay in advance dont try to save GST/PST ..pay in cheque..where you can run behind them.

2. The second contractor have not insulated properly all the window and doors ..so in winter we have realized it wasnt getting at all warm..and huge bill in engergy to heat up. ..so one side we have saved money by hiring cheap contractor ..but lost in energy..

so I would recommend pay double (still worth it) .. for proper installlation /certified company who will give you written guarrentty of plumbing, insulation, electric work any duct or vent work.

I have heared lots of expreince from other ppl... and thought still ours is not that much bad..

ppl had problem with their electric work..can be very risky.. with plumbing.
I didnt had problem with plumbing and electric yet.

so be aware..

You are right, I have heard and seen lot of such basements especially being in real estate business from last 8 years...I can write a book on such stories :-)
