Hi

I am shopping around for a VOIP service provider, and would appreciate feedbacks about Vonage, its service, billing issues (if any), etc.
Are there any other VOIP service provider like/or better than Vonage?

Also, for hi-speed internet & cable TV, which service provider would be the best bet?

Thanx

Have heard some negative comments about Vonage. I heard they have stiff fees if you try to cancel within a year.

Primus is another provider here. Rogers also has a VOIP service. Not sure of their quality though.

Personally, I prefer a traditional landline. A friend of mine has Verizon in the States and his calls keep getting dropped every once in a while when he calls me.

Please search this forum. There were many posts on VOIP. Personally, I know a couple of friends who have Vonage and the quality is horrible. I have called them from a cell phone, a landline and a VOIP phone and it's always been bad.
I am still using packet8, packet8.net and have been doing so for 2 years and have found the service to be excellent.
the only drawback being, you'll need to get a US number. They don't offer Canadian numbers.

Sumjo,

In case you get Hi-speed internet, then you can download Skype from http://www.Skpye.com." rel="nofollow">LINK Now this service allows you to call any number in Canada & US without any charge. But this "free service" does not give you a telephone number. However what you can do is get a cellphone with free incoming calls. That way the money you are going to spend for VOIP will be used for a cellphone and you have the flexibily of receiving ur calls free of charge & making calls
(thru Skpye) free of charge.

We use Primus and do not have a landline. I find it to be a great alternative to TELUS because

a) all the features are included ...including unlimited long distance in NA

b) We dont get ANY telemarketer calls :D

Once in a while there will be a problem with a call getting disconnected..but the advantages are worth it.

Shopping for a VOIP service provider!!

You can not make calls to some of the toll free numbers e.g .Government canada, lufthansa etc. andl also it is very difficult to get connected to any extension numbers. go for Land line connection.

alexm, Yellowknife views are right
