Hi,
Recently I got offer for a consulting job. Client have asked me to get a GST # and open a business account with bank so that they can deposit my consulting charges to that account.
Can anyone can help me with the procedure?

Hi there

Well first open up a business account with anybank of ur choice. Then go to the Canada Revenue office and tell them that u want to apply for a GST #. If you are in Scarboroguh the office is at SCarborough Town Center.

And one more thing let me know if there is nay job oppening. I am an Accoutning and Payroll Diploma Gradute. I have 2.5 years Exprience.

Be careful while opening business account with banks. Ask for their bank charges. Bank charges are very heafty.

If that is the case open a separate checking a/c with the same bank you have and donot tell them it is business. All you need is a separate bank a/c to record your income.

Hey CG....do you know how much time it takes to get the GST number? Is it immediate or is there a waiting period?

If you are doing a consulting or contract job yourself and donot hire anybody else and use your home as office and are ok with a numbered company, you can get a GST # online without visiting any offices. Thta is at least what I did in 2002. I applied on the internet and got a GST # on the web. Did not visit any offices.

Does everyone who works on contract need to get a GST number? Is there any minimum income limit?

How long does it take to get one?
