hello guys!
This is just my opinion to cut budget and save. Save for parents, spouses, children etc..
1. Use Red Bull Calling card to call india. $2.25 will get you 25-30 mins. to India.
2. Borrow from LOC and put it in Indian Post office account/ Seniors Savaing account ( LOC = 7.25 %, Indian Savings = 8%). Even if you donot get much returns it is a investment.
3. Always buy in Chinese stores. Never , Never ever go to Indian stores.
4. Visit Dollar stores for all stationary, crockery etc...
5. Visit No Frills/ Food basics instead of Loblaws , Dominion etc...
6. For internet use 295.ca. It is a Dialup. Just 3.16$ a month All inclusive
7. For emergency cell phone , use FIDO prepaid for $10
8. Try to use TTC instead of buying car.
9. If you have car, get it serviced with local mechanics (no tax)
10. Try to work for cash (if you can).
11. Keep your eyes peeled in Garage sales, on the streets for thrown away things etc... to get stuff you want.
12. Even if it is a 1 cent coin, always pick it up from the floor/ street and save it in a bottle.
13. New items in garage sales, can be taken to India and given as gifts ( i did it recently when i went to India).
14. Sears Outlest store is cheaper than sears store.
15. Off lights not needed in the house (if paying for hydro).
16. If you have a Car stay in a basement (you will see the town when you go out in the car and hence would not be depresses).
17. Many apts. offer cash reward for recommending tenants. So try to live as a group, recommending friends and sharing the money.
18. Try to attend all seminars. (you get to meet friends and get free refeshments).
19. Sometimes filing in surveys can give you money. Keep your eyes peeled.
20. If you have car, always fill in gas during the weekend nights or on thursday night.
21. If living in a metro, send money to parents through Hawala (money senders).. You will get a good rate.
22. Three families join together and buy a townhouse. You can live in each floor and the mortgage is less than rent + you have equity.
23. When going to india on vacation, cancel your car insurance or transfer it into parking insurance. you will save money.
24. use IKEA $1 breakfast regularly
25. if you have kids and they want to go to Mac. for french fries, take them to Loblaws instead. Huge quantity fried french fries are just $1.38 (incl. tax). Three people can eat one set of french fries and feel filled. Make a hamburger at home and take it there. You donot need mac donalds at all.
26. Humbercrest Loblaws (Dundas st+royal york) has coffee for 25 cents (no refills).
27. Cheapest price for ANY calling card is Dundas +hurontario (opp. kaveri supermarket and around the Newin centre vicinity). He also unlocks locked cell phones for $30 and his price for NEW cell phones are as low as $80
More as ideas flows in.

Speaking of calling back home, can anyone recommend a good phone card to call New Delhi? I've tried and found a Call 24 and Top 10 to be one of the better ones. Anything better than that?!
Or a good service?
Thank you!!

I use G3 telecom. It is not a card but an account. Everytime you call, the automatic voice tells you what your balance is. It is 13.9 cents and minute. My a/c is tied to my bell phone #.
Thank you for your inputs! I will try those out...

Does G3Telecom still have that promotion of $25 on "I love blah-blah-blah" ? Good enough to switch to g3 telecom ?
I use RelianceIndiaCall.com
Same rate - 13.9 cents per min (plus 15% tax)
I've been using since 1.5yrs, no issues, no problem.
