By the way did you know that many desis sometimes file a tax return showing an income much higher than what they actually make??

Chandresh

Why? What's the point of doing that?
Don't they end up paying more taxes then?

Simple Pratick - to get a loan approved or more commonly, to sponsor a family member for migration!

Just to settle an argument between my spouse and myself. I claim that almost every desi in Canada must be lying on their returns at least a little bit. (not declaring Indian investment income , etc.) Anyone here file a COMPLETELY honest tax return?

I am not sure about the desis but I am certain that ALL non-desis cheat on their income taxes - is your spouse a non-desi by the way!

Chandresh

What a bunch load of crap......You are telling me you have completely and honestly filed your taxes without any cheating (read I might have forgotten to mention that).
Yeh baat kuch hajam nahi hui! (mein hajmola leken aata hu)

I try to file my returns as honestly as I can but I have been reassessed inspite of that and my returns do get changed a little bit here and there.
So I would say I file my returns as honestly as I can and to the best of knowledge but I might be forgetting things which CRA or people like you might think as cheating.

Like what you forget to include. Tax return is very simple if you have all your T4 included and expense proof. Unless there is some expense or less income shown on return, what problem CR can have with your return. OR if you file business return............anybody guess....that is justified cheating...

For example I worked through an agency back in 2002 for a day and my address changed a couple times before they sent me my t4 and I had forgotten that I had worked but CRA didnt and sent me a notice with interest arrears and all.

The other time my tuition reciepts were not sent as there is no option in the software to do so; so they reassessd me and then when I had time and I sent them copies they reassessed me again.
Once I forgot to show some measly amount of interest from the savings and they had to bug me about that too.
When I came down to canada.....I dint get rent reciepts as it was shared but i was still paying rent and the CRA demanded receipts I could not get the receipts so had to pay back some amount again.

Hopefully this examples are enough. So far I have not received any notice of reassessment for 2004 but I am sure they are going to ask me for gas receipts this year.
