Yes I believe it does rain in December and Jan, I don't know if it pours heavily 'cause as I said before, i came here in May this year only so haven't a clue, but I think you would be ok with a good umbrella. Personally thats what I use.

About accomodation, I would suggest you try to find a place in burnaby. The price I can't say too much cause I don't know what you are looking for, but why don't you go on this website and check out for your self.

If you are planning to land in Toronto, I would suggest you not to bring heavy winter clothing from India as it would not work here. Though you can bring some (not many) sweaters and light jackets.

Life is always as normal as it could be in Toronto even in subzero temperatures.

One can survive harsh Canadian winter but it would be hard to survive without job. Certainly Toronto would offer you more job opportunities.

You have to have leather coats on woolen coats - understand?

Simple answer... desi woolens are rated for +10, you need something that will be warm inside even after it is wet on top with snow. The jackets here are usually multilayered type. You only need ONE!

dear banglorean

Normally winter clotehs back home are made according to the requirements of our country, so they dont work as good here as they work there. normally in winter people use to wear long & warm coats with warm clothing. that type of clothing is normally not found back home and if u luckily find it then its very expensive and the quality is not very good.

i dont know about vancouver, but as far as cost of living at a posh area in toronto is concerned i can say that in Mississauga(a good sub-urb of toronto) it will cost you around CAD 800 to 1000.

here in GTA(Greater Toronto Area)you will find good job oppurtunities as there are many industries here in toronto. Toronto is called the financial centre of Canada. the other uniqueness of toronto is its desis. For the first month in Mississauga i hardly had to say a complete sentence of English(cause of so many desis everywhere). the situation was same till i started lookin for job after the first month.

there are so much desis that you will not feel as a stranger here. most of the population in GTA(greater toronto area) is of new immigrants, specially in Mississauga and Brampton areas. and you can find any thing u used to have back home. like pulses and home utilities.

i hope this will help you
