As I have observed in the last six years, I am not surprised with the numbers. I had served on the school council for two years and dropped out in disgust. Some of the kids in grade 4 and 5 have the learning capacity of grade 2 and 3. Even in grade 5, some are so poor in Math that they can’t even tell the multiplication table for the numbers 8 and 9. But the school system makes sure that the kids and their parents feel good and none of the kids are “left behind”. Basically push them up till they reach high school? This is the drawback fo the public school system. I don’t know anything abt. private schools.
I hope there is some sort of an exam after grade 6 where they filter out kids before they go to secondary school (7th and 8th grades). Basic education in the early stages is also important. Just imagine, your children are in the class with kids who cannot understand the lessons, can’t do any Math, etc. Parents are to blame to some extent as they don’t show any interest in their children’s education. They are busy trying to get the ends meet or in a rat race or in their own fantasy world.
wonderful,
great standard of canadian school education.
where are those advocates of excellent canadian schooling?
