Dear friends, im a in-house lawyer in Pakistan geting around 9 lac p.a, im 40 and have two kids 6 and 3. I have done my medicals and if all goes well might get visa in a couple of months. After migration i intend to take student loan and update my law degree to canadian standards. This process might take upto 3 years (one year waiting for loan eligibility and two years of study) after which i might get a job in my field. I can survive anyhow but i just dread that my children might say "baba where have you brought us" and that might break me. I just want to know your opinions that whether or not i should migrate and that during the period of my study could i give my family some sort of decent life.

Hi...I live in Bangalore, so I'm not sure how much 9 Lakhs is in Pakistan. I think most people in this forum will say that 40 is late moving to a new country and trying to start afresh.

I think what you need to consider is...how much will Canadian citizenship/exposure help your children? how important are first world living stds like good roads/other infrastructure..not necessarily salary. Salaray might no necessarily be what expect...at least at first, but these intangible factors are more imprtant than you or I might thinkg sitting here in a third world countr.y.

I say this from my personal experience...I am pretty close to moving as well, and have a lot of the same questions as you. Judging from a lot of posts here< I am here quite well by Indian standards by am looking to move just to enjoy living in a first world country even though might be just middle class over there versus by upper class here.

Not sure if this is really the answer you were looking for, but I hope this has given you some perspective.

hi ,
its really tough to decide whether to move to a new country or not.
few days back i myself started one such thread and got different types of responses.
i went twice to canada as landed immigrant. i am also 40 years old and well settled in india.
its really tough to leave a settle life and venture in a new country where culture is different, where your hard earned qualifications and experience is not considered normally . sitting in home country its seems so simple that i will study for two -three years and then things will be fine. but day u land there u will feel the real tension and frustration. two year period will become long.
but if u have patience and courage alongwith support of ur family u will able to sail through that hard initial struggle. offcourse no doubt u r moving from a third world country to a developed country. kids future will certainly better there. but just imagine every year around 3 lac new immigrants landing there. mostly in big cities like toronto. how much job canadian economy is able to generate at an ordinary growth rate.
few days back i read a thread on this board that around 10000 engineers immigrants are landing in toronto every year.
during initial two three years u can expect security ,driver or sales coordinator job which i think not give u enough money to survive. lot depends whether ur wife will be able to contribute to ur income. then she have to also take care of ur kids as they are too young.
when here in delhi i see huge crowds every where, too much pollution and corruption , tough competition for kids i really think that i should have stayed there. but when i recollect the time spent there , about my job struggle , i feel happy that i came back.
there is no short cut if u want to move there u have to be fully prepared for the worst. after inital struggle of 4-5 years things will become better and u will say - its was good decision . particularly when ur kids will do good there. but i think jobs are not served in plates even for canadian educated childeren. simply not so much white collared jobs are there. even odd jobs are not easy to get. in labour jobs ads they used to specially mention - u should be able to lift around 20 kg. weight regulary.
offcourse in ur native country u enjoyed a status .
if u have some one to manage ur work in ur home country then u should go and have a try. but try atleast for six month and dont make to rush back quickly , as i did. actually work back home is like a bridge that attracts . so go there and try honestly for atleast 6 months. its life time opportunity.
TRY.
goodluck.

Dear Mr.Jamil Khan,

Good that you have asked clear question of your fears. the responds to your question are pretty good in line with your query. But you being a Muslim & also a lawyer looking on one side of the coin.

I am sorry to say that you have not think about your children growth in Muslim way. In free education of Canada, definately your children will not come up the way as they are in your native country unless you send them in Islamic School in Toronto. There are many Mosques in Toronto but one has to work hard to adher to his religioun. Other wise in flow of mass for earning one can easily spoil his faith so what is the use of your migration. I am not disappointing you. I have great respect for Islam & Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him) and being a Muslim you should always think about your faith and work hard for children faith.

If your wife & you are good enough to take care of your religious faith than you can go any where in the world and for that above respond of ptm is very appropriate.

Thanks,

Mrs. Praveen Daruwala.
