Has anyone here undergone criminal record check in Canada for employment purposes? Do the police physically go and check each address in the form or they just check the database on computer?

Hi,
Unless the Criminal Check entails "Finger prints", I believe that local Police departments rely on their Database only, since they give the clearance on th spot.
Fingerprints are verified by RCMP from Ottawa and I don't know how they conduct that detailed check. This type of check usually takes 2-3 months, so they must be verifying all the information on the applicant.

In the case that you haven't been in Canada in the last five years (and you are not a Canadian Citizen; just a PR) it can take upto 2 years for the background check, especially if you are coming from one of the third world countries or have lived in the Middle East.
Yes! I was laid off from a banking related job due to this reason! The employer hired me; kept me employed for two months, but could not wait long enough for the results

I am not sure which one was it, as it was applied by my employer for me. (I do remember my employer telling me that this type of clearance can be applied for only by the employer, and not by the employee)

I have applied for CRIMINAL RECORD SEARCH (Non-Volunteer) . Mentioned 2 addresses in Canada spanning around 1.5 years total and mentioned I was in India (no indian address was asked from me) before that. Let me see what happens!
