Thanks but no thanks ..
I am happy and content with what ever I make with my hard work .
I sleep well knowing that I have not conned anyone.

TK, you have to actually stay in Canada to learn about Canada !!!!

Have you ever heard that "Ontario is a NO-FAULT insurance province"

http://www.insurancehotline.com/new-to-ontario-things-you-should-know-about-auto-insurance/" target="_blank">http://www.insurancehotline.com/new-to-ontario-things-you-should-know-about-auto-insurance/</a>

Also reading the OP it looks like the ticket is a very minimal range & less at fault. It actually works on percentage. If you are less that 25% at fault, it will not affect your premiums. That percentage is decided by the insurance company, if you pay the fines yourself without fighting it. If you are fighting it in the court, it will be decided by the judge !!!

Well a no-brainer will tell you that fighting it in the court and let the JUDGE decide the fault percentage is the right way to go !!!

Just to update, the preferred body shop of the insurer had given a quote higher than the price of the car (I wonder why, in Asia it could have been repaired for less than $2000.00). So the insurance is to going to pay me for the market price of the car, so I am not losing now, but I know I will have to pay a higher premium in future. Since I had two cars and can manage without one car now, can the premium be reduced by keeping only one car instead of two? How long can we keep the plates of the old car in case I plan to buy the next car later only. Is there a time limit on this?

Thanks for the update.
your insurance premium will not increase till the renewal time.
However at renewal time, unless you delete your son's name from the insurance, your premium will skyrocket.
Though you did not do any repairs, the insurance company paid out a sum and that they will have to recoup from you some day.
You can keep the plates as long as you want, provided you renew them each year (i suppose).
If you are not sure of when to buy the next car, I would suggest that you return them, as having them is a pain.
Someone had told me that, once you return your plates and you have a current sticker that they will refund the months not used. But it is false. I returned 2 plates before I came to India and they did not give me any refund money.
Hope this helps.

Do not settle for the first offer that insurance company has offered

The amount they have offered is higher than the original purchase price even after excluding the deduction amount. So I accepted the amount they gave.
