Joe Lieberman, Senator (Dem) wants visas to be issued to ordinary Canadians travelling to USA. He is partly right as most of his problem is in the Canadian border side, while he is partly wrong because most of the border is so porous one could walk across the border.

But in short will Obama and Harper decide to institute Visas for us to travel to USA ?.

If so I think this will help USA to reinforce its border security, while there will be visa rejection, background checks and also other typical USA harassment.

Hope they do it logically than messing it up.

There might be a possibility to implement 2 different things before an actual stamped visa is required of Canadian citizens.

1: Inclusion in the list of visa waiver countries (such as lots of European countries) and issuance of green I-94s to visitors (Canada does not come under the visa waiver provision, but a higher level visa exempt position). This would streamline all countries into 2 categories - visa required (white I-94) or visa waiver (green I-94). This would also include Canadians being fingerprinted during I-94 issuance (status holders already have to go through that - status holders = TN, H1 or similar).

2: Requirement to apply for electronic visa online (again same as European nationals with visa waivers and what Australia has been doing for years).

Historically, in the past few years, terrorist attempts/infiltration have occurred from UK citizens (shoe bomber) or by individuals who have received valid stamped visa (Nigerian kid). So, having Canadians require a stamped visa and Europeans not might sound illogical. But hey, I guess logic has been down the toilet for years now.
