Best place to look for aptmts if one works around Sheppard and Yonge

Hi, I am new to Canada and will be working in Sheppard and Yonge area. I am looking for aptmts near that area or areas which are accessible by subway(Esp imp in winters). My monthly budget for rent is around 850. I would prefer an independent 1 BR aptmt (no basement aptmt-just not into it). I have no clue about the surrounding areas.
Can you please suggest some areas where i can look for rental aptmts?

Look near sheppard and donmills - there are many nice apartments there. However for $850.00 you will have to walk some distance from the subway...The good 1BR are usually close to $950.00~$1000.00.

Please spend 1 day walking to all apartments in the area - you will get the idea.
