I did a google and found this http://www.icbc.com/licensing/lic_utility_id_cardPU.asp for BC Card. i could not find anything for ON.

Pasting the link so that the person after me with the same question gets his/her answer easily.

I had the same question in my mind for a long time. The thing is you get into trouble only if they reqire 2 pcs of identification. One ofcourse will be your passport (I think each immigrant would have that), but you get lost for 2nd pc.

by the way, in Ontario, it is illegal to ask for a health card as piece of identification (though some people do accept it - they cannot officialy ask for it), and as far I remember, the first time I appeared for my driving test (G2), I had read somewhere that driving licence is NOT really to be used for a photo ID, though everyone does it.

The knowledge test for G1 is available in English, French, Greek, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Hindi, Finnish, German, Croatian, Punjabi, Korean, Tamil and Somali at some DriveTest Centres in Ontario. If you need the test in any of these languages, please check with your local Centre.

Thanks rajcanada for the link. I also found out from the link the following:

If your local Centre does not have the knowledge test in your language, you can take the test with an interpreter. The interpreter cannot be a friend or a family member. The DriveTest Centre will tell you who to contact to find a licensed interpreter. This interpretation service will cost some money

I don't know about the rules in ON but in the US, you can get a Photo Id without passing a driving test.

PHOTO ID and DRIVING LICENSE ARE NOT THE SAME.

A DRIVING LICENSE CAN BE USED AS A PHOTO ID. (BUT A PHOTO ID CANNOT BE USED AS A DRIVERS LICENSE)

IN THE US, FOR PEOPLE WHO CANNOT DRIVE / DID NOT PASS THE DRIVING TEST, THEY CAN OBTAIN PHOTO ID FROM ANY DRIVERS LICENSE CENTER BY TAKING YOUR PASSPORT AND PROOF OF ADDRESS (usually your lease agreement or utility bills).

Incase Ontario doesn't offer a Photo ID, you should be able to use PRCard and Passport as your two photo Ids

A photo ID will have your picture, signature and your current address. Your PR card or Passport will not have your current address.

Folks,
Ontario does not have anything like ID card. You need note reveal about your driving status or credit for that. The Govt. depts other then MTO is misusing this drivers license left and right.

Beware do not reveal your SIN no at any time other then buyinh RRSP, property or any immigration/tax work. You do not need a SIN to open a account. Banks can ask but you can decline. This is a confidential no. and do a lot of harm if abused.

In Nova Scotia, you can get a photo ID from the DMV . One has to take your passport and a bill showing where you reside. they give you an ID with your address just like a driving licience. I have it for my kids. that way they can carry it with them at all times. I have seen alot of ppl who dont drive have the same. i am sure they have one in Ontario too.
