That could happen. Again, it is the discretion of the officer at the port of entry.

In the case of my MIL, her passport was never stamped during entry at Pearson, although, she planned on only a six month stay.

However, a month later we all went to US and when re-entering Canada, the officer stamped her passport. Does that mean she now has 6 months from this stamp date? Who knows?
