My car broke down last night in Brampton. Police saw my car on roadside with flashers ON so they stopped by. Police called a tow truck. He towed my car for 8 Kms and charged me $260. To me it sounds too much. Since it was the first time i had been into this situation I am not sure if it is reasonable or too much. How does it work? Can anyone provide some more info for future on how these towing companies work and their charges?
Thanks
I was told that, there is something like you pay $90 per year and whole year the company gives towing service anytime. Please check.

you have to have breakdown insurance before hand http://www.caa.ca/
Even with the Automobile membership, it's limited to a maximum of 3 towings / year. Also depending on your membership status, there is a distance limit that applies.
So it's not like $90 / years gives you unlimited towings.
