Toronto, ON– The diverse South Asian culture will take centre stage at the Bur Oak Secondary School on Saturday, November 14, 2009, as the Social Services Network’s youth group - “Leaders of Tomorrow, Today”, proudly present its 4th annual EKTAA “Unity within Diversity” cultural show.

Ektaa is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘oneness’ or ‘unity’ and keeping with the preceding themes of the past three years the current event will focus on “bridging the intergenerational gap”. More than 70 youth and seniors will perform together and demonstrate the importance of maintaining the rich and diverse South Asian heritage through various performing arts that will include music, dance, and poetry, and integration of various traditions within the contemporary Canadian lifestyle.

According to Dr. Charanjit Bambra, SSN Executive Director, “This will be one of the very few events that will connect the seniors and youth in a performing arts extravaganza that will celebrate unity while at the same time display the different layers of diversity within the complex South Asian community and diaspora.”

This view is also endorsed by Pushpmit Bhatia, SSN Seniors Program Manager, “We hope to encourage and empower seniors to take an active role in the community.”

“Ektaa is the perfect outlet to showcase the bridging of the intergenerational gap through performing arts,” states Tejal Solanki, SSN Youth Program Manager, “through this show we hope to inspire and encourage youth to keep the South Asian culture alive while integrating into the Canadian way of life.

Refreshments will be served and two raffles will be held.

Bur Oak Secondary School is located at 933 Bur Oak Ave in Markham and the performance will begin at 7 p.m. and is expected to finish around 9 p.m.

Early bird tickets are being sold for $7 and tickets at the door will be sold for $10.

For tickets call the Social Services Network office at 905-940-7864 or visit our website http://www.socialservicesnetwork.org" rel="nofollow">LINK
