Sulekha.com has partnered with Guru Gobind Singh Foundation to raise funds for the treatment of Tarandeep Singh Bhatti, and has set up an online fundraiser at http://www.sulekha.com/tarandeep." rel="nofollow">LINK Guru Gobind Singh Foundation has appealed to its vast Indian community in the US and worldwide to help a fellow Indian in his fight against cancer.
Tarandeep is a young man of 20, who was diagnosed with a life threatening disease called Acute Leukemia in October 2003. After being treated in India at the P.D. Hinduja Medical Center in Mumbai, India for chemotherapy, he was recommended a Bone Marrow Transplant for his relapsed leukemia condition.
In January 2004, Tarandeep’s father Madan Pal Singh Bhatti brought him to the United States to seek superior expertise and medical infrastructure that would provide the cure for Tarandeep’s ailment. While Tarandeep is receiving maintenance chemotherapy, the only hope for a cure is a very lengthy and expensive treatment, which includes a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT).
Tarandeep is being treated at the Georgetown Hospital in Washington DC; however his family is no longer able to support his treatment due to lack of funds. Not being US residents, the Bhatti family does not have medical insurance, thus making it impossible to continue Tarandeep’s expensive treatment. Madan Pal Singh received a letter from Dr. Richard J. Jones, Director, BMT program on Feb 04, 2005 stating, “Tarandeep's bone marrow shows relapse of the acute leukemia. This is very likely the reason for his bony pains. He will need to begin treatment soon; however, we can not treat him until financial issues have been resolved - this part is completely out of my control.”
Tarandeep’s family has supported his treatment in the United States for more than a year, but is unable to continue it any further.
In order to seek assistance from the local Indian community in meeting the costs, a fundraising campaign has been established with Guru Gobind Singh Foundation (Sikhnet). Sikhnet is a 501(3)(c) charitable organization offering tax deductions for contributions by US taxpayers.
Sulekha.com, the largest online Indian community network has helped set up an online fundraiser to reach out to its large Indian community and help raise funds for Tarandeep’s treatment. Sulekha.com has a track record of serving the Indian community by providing a platform for raising funds for various causes. In 2003, Sulekha.com had launched an appeal for the treatment of Vidyaranya Naduri, a student from Kansas State University, suffering from Leukemia, and the Indian community had overwhelmed Sulekha.com with support and donations. Says Vineet Pabreja, Director, Sulekha Events, “Sulekha is an online Indian community and we believe in bringing Indians together, whether it is festivity or support. Fundraising is an integral part of our services and we hope to help Indians come together on a common platform to help different causes”
While Tarandeep Singh is struggling with the deadly disease, his family is also facing massive challenges - both emotional and financial. In addition to your generous donation, you could also help them out by sending your words of solace and comfort. Tarandeep’s father, Madan Pal Singh has rooted himself out of India and is relentlessly pursuing every possible means to ensure that Tarandeep gets the treatment he deserves.
