Guwahati, Dec 28 (IANS) A Bodoland People's Front (BPF) legislator Friday blamed his own party chief Hagrama Mohilary for the communal violence in Assam that left more than 100 people dead three months ago. Hitesh Basumatary told the media that Mohilary was responsible for the violence that engulfed Kokrajhar and Chirang, which fall under the Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts (BTAD). BTAD is run by the Bodoland Territorial Council, whose chief executive member is also Mohilary. Describing Mohilary as a "dictator", he said the people of the state were "well aware who is responsible for the whole situation". "Along with the people, I would like to (urge) Mohilary to cooperate with the government to seize all illegal arms in BTAD. I wish he will work for peace and prosperity in the Council area," Basumatary said. Basumatary, who represents Chapaguri in the Assam assembly, denied Mohilary's allegation that he (Basumatary) was involved in a kidnap-murder case. "How can he make such remarks even before the investigation report is out? Being a leader of a political party, he has violated the norms of democracy." The communal violence which enveloped Kokrajhar, Chirang and Dhubri districts also displaced closed to five lakh people. Basumatary called for the seizure of all illegal weapons in the Bodoland areas. "I'm not talking about Muslims or Bodos but one must find out from where all these illegal arms have come from? All these should be seized."
